well, I'm a western fan through and through! my favorite author is Louis L'Amour. My favorite singular book is "Hondo" with his book series "The Sacketts" followin' close behind. what 'bout the rest of y'all?

Well the cowboy, like the red man, you had to leave your land
You can't raise your stock and plant your crop in the gumbo and the sand
Greed disguised as progress has put us to the test
They won't be glad until we're gone from our home out in the west
It's sad to see those good old days replaced with greed and doubt
Soon we'll leave the country, the campfire has gone out
Bid 'em all adieu, you can't turn the world about
The cowboy left the country, the campfire has gone out

I never had much exposure to Westerns until recently.  My only exposure you Louis L'Amour was The Walking Drum which I read a few years ago.

However, back in October I was perusing and antique store when I picked up an old 1944 Western, Rusty Guns by Bliss Lomax.

Meanwhile, the dear author of this thread gave me Hondo for Christmas.  I'm a chapter and a half away from finishing it.

As far as Westerns go.....I think I'm hooked.   Wink  In fact, since my supply is rather um....sparse, I'll be poking my way through a bookstore soon.

It is not quite a western but Have you ever read the book series  Red River Of The North?
They are about settelers from Norway Settling in America. The author is a Christian and the books are clean and exciting you all should read them they are good. Smiley

William Johnstone's Mountain Man, Matt Jensen, and First Mountain Man series! Wink

A little gory and the language ain't the best either, but the books are deep and complex.

Westerns don't really appeal to me.

I have now waved goodbye to the chipped mug of capless and corporate-logoed biros and rollerballs on my desk, and in their place the Cross resides alone, a writing weapon to be taken seriously, a latter-day Excalibur (though mightier, obviously, because it's a pen) that I shall wield daily in my tireless quest for legible, joined-up truth.
