This opens up a whole new world. At first I thought that this was a Laptop kit like that Motorola Asterix system - where you put in the device externally or internally to keyboard and LCD monitor and carry it from outlet to outlet, or the PiTop Laptop, which is similar to the Asterix but everything is internal
Pine64 is another ARM CPU based Board, tooting its horn that it was the first 64bit ARM System. But it had several things wrong with it: Bad Press, Delays in shipping (from China), and way over priced - $299 for a board about twice the size of a Raspberry Pi. So it had 4GB and other goodies... $300 for this board was not worth it. And even though they ere a US Based Company, their manufacture was in China. They almost died.
Rumors has it that B-Pi (The Chinese Branch of the Banana Pi when they Broke Off from Lemaker), and The Next Company (maker of The CHIP $9 computer) helped keep them afloat while seeing what they could take from Pine64 as collateral. B-Pi (from China) took a lot of technical information to create their other boards with the 64Bit CPU. It got to a point where B-Pi was charged with espionage and theft of technology. But how could they? These systems are Open Source Technology, so anyone is allowed to look at it, copy it, improve on it if they like and put their name on it. For this information, the rumors say that they kept Pine64 afloat.
So Pine64 has released a couple more boards of varying configurations and styles at rock bottom prices! Their original board which sol for almost $300, now sells for $25 - $45; depending on RAM size: 1GB, 2GB or 4GB. Other boards they have go for $15 - $50. They learned their lesson.
But while being helped out, they too took some ideas themselves. One I found was their Laptops. Standard size 14 or 11 inch screens. Being under $100, I thought they were the casing, keyboard, screen and so on and you buy a Pine64 Unit to put in.
It's not.
It's a complete Pine64 Laptop with a 2GB Pine64 board in the laptop casing.
