A Step Backwards? Interesting New O-Pi 2G-IOT
Mar 30th, 2017, 3:32pm

Orange Pi 2G-IOT.... I'm scratching my head on this one.
https://www.aliexpress.com/store/product/Orange-Pi-2G-IOT-ARM-Cortex-A5-32bit-Su pport-ubuntu-linux-and-android-mini-PC-Beyond/1553371_32802458477.html

32bit A5 Cortex CPU... That is a step backwards from the A7 used since the first Raspberry Pi. Well, the very first R-Pi used the A5 for a short time before moving to the Cortex A7. If you can find one, it was on the 256MB Model B raspberry Pi; the first one to come out and 6 months later Model B with the A7 came out with 512MB. As is this A5 system has 256MB of RAM on this board, though it is a single core CPU. All the other O-Pi board have been Quad Core CPUs based on the Cortex A7 and AllWinner CPU as in the H3 and H5.

The GPU is a Vivante GC860... possibly Single Core, but never heard of it. How it stacks to anything? Don't know. But in guessing that it being a single core GPU, it ought to run terribly slow though they boast of OpenGL and fast graphics processing.

Furthermore there is no Ethernet. There is Wifi and Bluetooth, and 2 USB ports but it one is an OTG-USB. It also had RDA 5991, which is a cellphone and GPS/GMS/GPRS protocol. In that it haws 2G (Cellphone) network capability. I'm guessing you need to get the SIMM Card for it and pay for the service.

No Standard Video port, though there is a LCD slot connector like several board including the Raspberry Pi has but you have to get the compatible LCD Panel for it. No other LCD will work on it. It does have a "standard" GPIO.

In all, this is a rather confusing little system. But it is $9.

Labeled as an IoT device it means that it is to be used as a intelligent controller to various devices like Robotics and controlled over the internet. But you can do this with any other board, including the O-Pi 0 and the R-Pi 0. Adding t the confusion, it has "FM." Frequency Modulation? For and why?

As is information on this board is minimal. It can not be explained as to what or why. There is a lot of speculation in the O-Pi Community about this little board, and it is a tiny board, as wide as an O-Pi 0 but 1/3rd thinner. The biggest hint is that it can be connected to the G2 Cellular Network.

Well the cowboy, like the red man, you had to leave your land
You can't raise your stock and plant your crop in the gumbo and the sand
Greed disguised as progress has put us to the test
They won't be glad until we're gone from our home out in the west
It's sad to see those good old days replaced with greed and doubt
Soon we'll leave the country, the campfire has gone out
Bid 'em all adieu, you can't turn the world about
The cowboy left the country, the campfire has gone out
