A New Raspberry Pi - The Model A+!
Nov 14th, 2014, 11:30am

At a very low price.... Detailed here:

http://www.raspberrypi.org/raspberry-pi-model-a-plus-on-sale/
Quote: When we announced the Model B+ back in July, we said that we’d also be producing a lower-cost variant, analogous to the original Model A. Since then, James has been beavering away, and today we’re pleased to announce the release of the Raspberry Pi Model A+ at a new low price of $20.

$20? Damn. I just noticed them today on Ebay for $31 to $35! Something to investigate further.

Well the cowboy, like the red man, you had to leave your land
You can't raise your stock and plant your crop in the gumbo and the sand
Greed disguised as progress has put us to the test
They won't be glad until we're gone from our home out in the west
It's sad to see those good old days replaced with greed and doubt
Soon we'll leave the country, the campfire has gone out
Bid 'em all adieu, you can't turn the world about
The cowboy left the country, the campfire has gone out

Like the Model A compared to the Model B, the Model A+ is the same thing - a Model B+ with only only 1 USB Port, no Ethernet and this time they cut the board almost in half, making it smaller and use less electricity.

In talking with the girl at Tinkersphere, the Model A+ would be great for robotics and sensor measuring. This would replace a lot of projects the Model B+ was being used for because there was no A+ for such a long time.

Otherwise, the Model A+ is still more or less a Model A with "improved ROM", better voltage regulation circuit and smaller sized board.

makes sense. Might work for my remote keypad project. Need a remote keypad to open gates that will talk to the main system to log who came and left.

I got a few keypads (waiting on delivery from China), the A+ board is about the same size as a keypad if not smaller. The KeyPad can go on to the GPIO and the A+ USB can communicate with the rest of the system through a usb-wifi.

To give you an idea of the size of the Model A+, here it is with the Model A, which you know is the same size as the Model B.

The keypad I got was about $1.25 from China, its about 7.5cm (4.5im) long X 6.5cm (3.5in) wide.

The A+ fits within the white border of the inside box of this keypad.

I also got a 4X4 key pad which is wider than the first one but it has not arrived yet. It was 85¢ from Hong Kong.

Just have to figure out the matrix wiring before connecting it to the R-Pi. There are a couple of webpages which shows how to connect other keypads to the GPIO. The program itself is simple. The issue on all of them was the matrix wiring.
The first key pad is 7 wires for 4 rows X 3 columns The second keypad is 8 wires for 4 rows X 4 columns.
