I like the KJV. The Jefferson bible is based on Jefferson's belief that God does not have the ability or just does not have interaction with the world thus Jesus could not be God's son and there could be no supernatural miracles. Jefferson tore out the pages that referred to miracles and that refered to god's hand workin' here on earth, so I feel it is missin' important info. I'm not sayin' the KJV is the only good version its just my preferred version and I'm not sayin' all those how read the Jefferson Bible are in big spiritual trouble, I'm just sayin' what I see and believe.

19 "For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book:

Jefferson was a deist, and attributed the spiritual elements of the New Testament to revisions forced upon it by the apostles and others after Jesus was killed off. He thought that under all of the spiritual stuff was an ethical system to surpass all others, and spent many years finding it in the New Testament. It's an interesting read regardless of religious orientation.

As such was the reason why separation of church and state was included as well as freedom of religion without fear of pursecution was put into the Constitution and its Amendments.

I know 'bout deists and i did know 'bout a bunch of our fore fathers bein' such. I've studied all that before. (just 'casue I'm a man from the West and other places, mostly country, and I tote a gun does not make me ignorant) and it is interestin' the areas that he tore out, but i just believe it to be incorrect to yank out those passages. and I believe that "all scripture is given by inspiration of God and is profitable for doctrine, For reproof, for understanding, for correction in righteousness." That is how I believe, the Jefferson Bible is interestin', but to me sad as I believe that the removed section to be the word of God as well as the rest. But that is my belief. I can tell you and show you why I believe what i believe, but I can't and won't force it on anyone. Thats Gods Department, if he so chooses to show himself and what he wills to be shown of himself to whom he wishes and when he wishes.

I don't mean to argue or put anyone down, but you asked my thoughts and here they are. No worries?

I was born a country boy. Trip to town for supplies once a month and all i need is a place, the land, a gun, and a little woman beside me. A junk yard close by would be nice, for projects, but I could always make 2 or 3 trips to town a month if needed.

Reply #9 - May 24^th, 2008, 4:34pm Billings isn't exactly urban, so you could probably live five miles from the city centre and still have twenty acres for the same price as a moderate flat where I currently live. :p It's a nice and clean town full of shockingly nice people.

I have heard many scholars say that the Authorised King James Version is probably the most 'valid' Christian Bible, praising its accuracy in translation. The New International Version seems easier to read for the average person, but I have been made aware of inconsistent translations (such as the confusion arising from the Greek word Arsenokoitai; compare 1 Corinthians 6 and 1 Timothy 1). Bear in mind that translating anything into another language opens the door to many potential ambiguities. The translation in question will reflect the politics and comprehension of the translators.

Take the word Cyclops, for example. It is derivative of the Greek word kyklops, which is in turn derivative of kyklos (meaning "round") and ops (meaning "eye"). So, the term literally means "round eye". But, cyclops are not known for having round eyes, they are known for having a single eye. Ancient Greek legends would have been incorrectly translated if it was understood that Odysseus had met Polyphemus the Round-eye, rather than Polyphemus the Single-eye.

Translating words without a full understanding of their meaning (as is the case for some terms in the Bible) can result in ambiguities (at best), or outright fallacies (at worse). The potential for bias is high, as the translator can adapt the language to best represent his vision of the religion, without making it clear that other translations (with very different meaning) could be just as valid.

How can anyone know that this hasn't already happened? Even if someone did modify the Bible, and they did incur God's wrath, how would anyone know? We could all be reading non-canonical Bibles without even knowing it. undecided

Read and believe what you will; personally, the Book of Mormon might as well be considered authentic.
