Title: Raspberry Pi 4B! And Buster Replaces Stretch!
Post by Fernando on Jun 24th, 2019, 10:59am

These past few days comes the release of the Raspberry Pi 4B (in the UK, in July in the USA). It comes with many major improvements and minor changes to the Raspberry Pi Model B Form Factor and still retains its $35 price tag. These improvements puts the Raspberry Pi 4B as nearly true desktop system like the high end Orange Pies and Banana Pies.

Improvements include a new 64bit Quad Core ARM A72 CPU running at 1.5GHz, Dual Video ports for 2 monitor ports, Gigabyte Ethernet USB 3.0, improved Wifi 802.11ac  and USB-C power connection. The Base model comes with 1GB of RAM for $35. Medium based model has 2GB of RAM for $45, and High end base model has 4GB for $55. everything else remains the same and is software backwards compatible with other R-Pi systems. Except for the position swapping of the ports, it is still 100% hardware compatible too; with cases to put the R-Pi 4 being an issue as older system cases will no longer fit on the R-Pi4. Though it still the same size as the Model B, the Ethernet and USB Ports have been swapped around, probably for easier manufacturing of them.

The 2GB and 4GB models and the faster CPU puts the R-Pi 4B in the same class as the high end Orange Pies and Banana Pies. It also opens the system up for larger programs and faster execution of various programs.

For about $120, the Raspberry Foundation has a "Whole Computer Kit" which includes a R-Pi 4B (4GB version), a mouse, keyboard, power pack, and manuals in a large box.

Running the R-Pi 4B is the new release of Raspbian Buster, which replaces Raspbian Stretch. Raspbian Buster takes advantage of the hardware found on the R-Pi 4B while still being able to run in the older R-Pi systems. It also fixes a lot of issues Stretch has, making Stretch one of the shorter lived Raspbian systems (At least Jessie had a 3 year run! Stretch lasted just a bit more than a year.)

You can get more information, and download Raspbian Buster from the Raspberry Pi website:
