Title: Promises Kept and Promises Broken... Post by Fernando on Jun 8th, 2017, 8:36pm Now that I see the ASUS Tinkerboard on sale on MicroCenter, I decided to research it before possibly getting it. Then I saw this video of several boards. The Tinkerboard was promised to be an AMD version of Raspberry Pi. Instead they broke their promise and used the RockChip to create an ARM Based R-Pi clone, and according to its specs, a damned fast one. 1.6GHz - one of the fastest boards around! Wait - RockChip? Never heard of them. I need to research it. Anyways, they broke their promise of making an AMD/Intel - Raspberry Pi Like board and instead made a clunky Raspberry Pi Clone. But according to this video, JaguarBoard is out and they made an Intel based SBC (Small Board Computer) a bit larger then the Raspberry Pi. It can run all sorts of PC based OSes including UNIX, Linux AND Win10! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OoV-pfDkaik Other boards are on this video, mostly ARM based boards, but the JaguarBoard is the only one to take it to the Intel Universe. Only thing is, there is no GPIO, just standard PC I/O. But for the price, any of their three boards is UNDER $100! They have 2 boards - the JaguarOne and Jaguar One Plus. The Plus has double the RAM and a faster CPU They do use the Atom-Xeon Intel CPU, and it did not say if it is a Single, Dual or Quad CPU, but the promise is there! chttp://www.jaguarboard.org/index.php/com_virtuemart_menu_configuration/products/buy/jaguarboard.html http://www.jaguarboard.org/index.php/com_virtuemart_menu_configuration/products/buy/jaguarboard/207/jaguarboard-detail.html#specification The Tinkerboard on the other hand, tries to be a faster better Raspberry Pi 3 and fails. It looks like it has a better CPU and GPU but many features are not implemented in the Linux kernel. Like the Prange Pi, its version of Linux only shows that the board works and everything else fails. Armbian is better but there are still issues. For $55, I'll spend my money on something that works. Ouch, I know. https://www.asus.com/us/Single-Board-Computer/Tinker-Board/specifications/ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=43-AAvKdRUg (NovaSpirit Tech's Review) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y4EIhh0VT5g (MickMake's Review) The other boards on the first video are interesting. The Onion and the Wino shows promise. And like the Wino (I believe), Tespa is an Arduino using an ARM CPU. Sounds Familar? Ha! Think pcDuino 8 and some of their other boards! Same idea but taken to a different level! |
Title: Re: Promises Kept and Promises Broken... Post by Hondo I. Sackett on Jun 8th, 2017, 10:49pm That jaguar board sounds promising. Too bad about no tipi but no ones perfect. Good info all around though. Thank! |
