Title: More on the BeagleBone Black.
Post by Fernando on Oct 15th, 2016, 8:00pm

Live and learn...

The BeagleBone Blacks I got were heavily modified that when I explained it at the BBB Google group, they said that it might not be recoverable. "Too many chips missing."

Thing is odd. They can be modified on the field if one knows what they are doing. Or they can be built by the factory modified if you tell TI what you want. And one of the biggest things some people want is a dumb headless Bit Miner for BitCoins. Apparently, this is that my BBB was modified to do either robotics or BitCoin Mining. I can not be too sure until I figure how to turn on the thing and access it through a network.

This one is a BeagleBone Black modified at the factory for Bit Mining:

If you compare it to a "normal" BBB, this has missing ports: USB and Video, and the chips for video support is missing and the chips moved around to accommodate the changes. It is good for nothing but for BitCoin Mining, headless web server or robotics. In that sense, it is great. But for an average computer, it is worthless. It is almost like the Nano Pi Neo, the $8 unit that has no video but you can use it for other things.

I made a deal with somebody on the group to trade one of my BBBs for one of his. I hope I do not get burned by the deal, but he says his needs the OS reflashed as it is a third party OS (probably Android) and he wants to see if mine was a robot or a miner, he thinks its a miner and wants to know how to do it and he believes that it is a key to do it. He will let me know how to turn it on without the power in once he gets the board and studies it. I wish him the best. Bitcoin Mining is big but I think its getting scarce, I knew a few who have been doing it for years and only managed to get 1/7th of a BitCoin found (about $1200 for a few years work!). Basically in BitCoin Mining, there codes on the Net that your miner bot finds, must decypher and get the coin-bit from the old Bit Coin Banks and later cash it in - somehow.

I found a site on line with a few BeagleBone Black Books on it, and will be adding them to the library, including a Dummies Book. They are small PDF Files. I just need to set up the files and the upload page for it.

Sounds interesting.  Let us know how it turns out
