Title: CHIP Gets His Gadget... Oh Boy... Here We Go Again Post by Fernando on Oct 13th, 2016, 2:51pm The makers of The CHIP are producing a new board they calling "CHIP Pro" with "Gadget" as its Linux OS. At $16 it is 1/2 the size of the CHIP. From the looks of it, there are no ports but it looks like the parts are part of the GPIO. It is about the size and shape of an Arduino Mini or Nano and you put it on a Perf Board or a Development Board for $50 more. The Development Board gives it its ports - USB, Video, etc. It does have one USB Mini Port for power and limited data access. It is mostly for Embedded and Robotics Projects. For $16, is has 2MB of Flash RAM and 256MB of RAM - half of that the CHIP has. Without the Development board, it is like an Arduino though it runs Linux like it's "Big brother." Thing is, they still are having problems with Shipping from Hong Kong - 6 week delays. And the Development board wont be out until December AND adding 6 weeks to that, you won't see it until mid February 2017. So you can order your Gadget now and get it around Christmas and the Development board around Valentine's day. Is it worth it? For about the same price ($15), you can get a R-Pi:0 from ebay in less than a week's time and have more RAM and usable video and USB Ports. Personally I do not see any major pluses in this board, and the minor pluses are too few to consider liking it. For more info: https://getchip.com/pages/chippro |
