This is a strange beast at best! It is a clone of a clone! The Banana Pi is an improved clone of the Raspberry Pi made for China by the Lemaker Corp in Germany. Lemaker, with 96boards.org, has made an 8core R-Pi clone with 2GB of RAM and an 8Core CPU!

The premise is to create the most powerful computer on the smallest board possible while keeping the price down as possible.

But this does not stop here! No!!!

Because the Lemaker's design of the HiKey (8 core Banana Pi) was redesigned heavily, they removed a few things like the SATA Drive Port. The Chinese gov't and educational system was not happy with this design and opened a SECOND BANANA PI COMPANY and took the HiKey design and brought it back to the Banana Pi Standard I/O!

Thus this is a clone of a clone, improving on what they believe such a system needed! It's already on ebay for under $150! The webpage of this second Banana Pi company and its 8Core CPU machine can be found here:

Jeesh! These people are taking the term "Open Source Hardware" and running with it as if they stole it!

I'm seeing similar items with the android tablets - "Octa Core tablets" with a lot of add-ons, for under $100.... damn!
