I was thinking more along the lines of the standard "death to the Jews" sort of pronouncements.

if they didn't burn Bibles they'd still get the "death to the Jews" junk.

A valid point, I suppose. It seems like it really was an unintended incident, but it sort of makes me wonder where all of those Bibles came from.

Burning all those Bibles seems hypocritical to me, considering that Judaism and Christianity share a common foundation.  I know that the New Testament is not compatible with Orthodox Judaism, but it is no more unbelievable.

All good things must come to an end. ;)

From their perspective, they'll be rewarded for remaining faithful unto their own perception God, just as a Muslim fanatic anticipate rewards for killing infidel.  As Thích Qu[ch7843]ng [ch272][ch7913]c once fatally illustrated, faith in any religion can be very powerful.

I just feel sorry for whomever spent hard-earned money on what would become kindling.

Strangely enough, those bibles people steal from hotels, are put there to be stolen. Several book publishers print bibles to be stolen because the church pays them to do so. This way the public gets access to the bible for free and if they want a copy, they can take it. Hotel Management has a case load in their basement for replacements and the church comes in once a year to restock their supplies.

Now if a hotel's bible stock were to be stolen, then this is something else...

might be somethin' else but it's still disrespectful to the Bible.

That is very generous.  Of course, there is also the urban legend that some generous Christians will leave money (paper notes/bills) in a Gideon's bible to reward people who turn to the Bible in times of need.

That's a very generous thing to do, but I sometimes wonder if there are groups of people out there who simply flick through the Bible in order to find the money.
