Title: Working with CDs on Windows
Post by Fernando on Mar 1st, 2008, 9:11pm

When working with CD, every so often you run into a Disk Image called .iso

Windows cant do much with these files unless you have a CD Burning Software and just burn them. But what is you want to open them up? No luck there.

Until now. Found these 2 programs that will open up .iso files (and a couple of other formats too). One is freeware for XP, the other is Shareware for all other Windows Systems from 98 on.

Free XP ISO program "Virtual CD-ROM Control Panel for Windows XP"

Shareware ISO program "PowerISO"

(In this respect, things are so much easier in the Mac and Linux world)

The XP ISO program is from Microsoft.
Here is a webpage that explains how to work it:

There is a good CD/DVD burning tool that works with Windows XP and Windows Vista called CDBurnerXP, and it's freeware.  It's at http://cdburnerxp.se/

There is also another good tool to view ISO images without burning them, called Daemon Tools Lite.  Be careful as you install it, because the default settings will install some adware on your computer.  Just untick the right boxes in the component selection window of the installer, and it'll hopefully install without the unnecessary nasty extras.
