Title: Verses of personel meaning. Post by AnnieOakley on Oct 9th, 2007, 1:58pm I know this place isn't going anywhere fast but I think this thread is a good idea. I think it would be a good idea for some of us to post verses and passages that speak to us. I was actually reading these verses when I was talking to Fernando the other day and they really made me stop and think Where wast thou when I laid the foundations of the earth? declare, if thou hast understanding. Job 38:4 This was a rebuke to me, who am I to question what God is doing in my life. He made all and understands all and I have no understanding to declare, or argue with him. |
Title: Re: Verses of personel meaning. Post by Soda on Jan 1st, 2008, 6:28pm I like this quote, from John the Evangelist's sermon: God is love; and he that dwelleth in love dwelleth in God, and God in him. 1 John 4:16 (King James Version) |
Title: Re: Verses of personel meaning. Post by Mean One on Jan 3rd, 2008, 4:58pm I really like the verse Philippains 3:15(KJV) Let us therefore as many as be perfect, be thus minded: and if any thing ye be otherwise minded, God shall reveal even this unto you. It is a comfort to me to see God is there to help us and show us the way we should go! :) |
Title: Re: Verses of personel meaning. Post by Winston on Jan 5th, 2008, 9:32pm Matthew 6:25-29 "For this reason I say to you, do not be worried about your life, as to what you will eat or what you will drink; nor for your body, as to what you will put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing? Look at the birds of the air, that they do not sow, nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not worth much more than they? And who of you by being worried can add a single hour to his life? And why are you worried about clothing? Observe how the lilies of the field grow; they do not toil nor do they spin, yet I say to you that not even Solomon in all his glory clothed himself like one of these." Heaven is here and now and this is the simplest and truest description there is of it in the entire Bible. Though others will no doubt not agree, seems to me, most all the rest could be tossed out and we wouldn't be missing much so long as we remember this bit. |
Title: Re: Verses of personel meaning. Post by Nyperold on Jan 21st, 2008, 7:05pm He answered and said to them, Why do you also transgress the commandment of God because of your tradition? Matthew 15:3; similar sentiment in Mark 7:9 This speaks to me (almost indirectly) because all too often we believers believe that whatever comes from the pope's/priest's/pastor's/preacher's/rabbi's/sage's mouth is the truth, regardless of what the Bible has to say on the subject. If he says, "This is required," or something to that effect, we make sure we do it. Or "This is sin," and we avoid it like the plague. But no man, though he have the ability to convince people he's right or at least the resources to force people to go along with it, has the authority to require something the Word doesn't require, or to make sin what the Word doesn't say is sin. This is especially true when obedience to the human being's words causes a violation of God's Word. Such gall, that man should make up religious laws and call them God's! |
