Tommygunner 70

Tommygunner70, is well known for being the scanlator on the job when it comes to fixing up the GsG series with translations. reason being That ADV is being deadly slow with it.

However, this has not always been the case, since Sintendo was the one who actually showed Tommy the ropes of the trade that resulted in the release of a fan scanlated Volume 6. After which he did Volume 7, and any other volumes that followed solo.

Tommygunner70’s opinion about his work:

GsG Wiki: We are here with the scanlator himself, Thank you for having us Tommygunner70.
Tommy: Well I am glad to have you, and please just call me Tommy.
GsG Wiki: Very well, Tommy. Some of us may or may not have read that English is not actually your first language.
Tommy: That is Correct; my native language is Dutch, though I would have to admit that my skill at my native language is pretty much taking a nosedive right now.
GsG Wiki: You hate your own language?
Tommy: Not at all, I only use it on a rare basis. On the job, I pretty much use English to commune with fellow workers, and pretty much when communing with the GSG community I use English.
GsG Wiki: So, how do you feel about all the credit you receive on your work as scanlator?
Tommy: Oh geez, now that is a hard one to answer in English.
GsG Wiki: Sorry about that.
Tommy: It’s ok. Well, I am happy to receive all the words of thanks and appreciation people shove my way. But I have to be honest though; Though I am up on the stage to release these out in the open world. There is a small team of guys that actually work with me. Kodoku Ryuu and Thanatos, also members at the Gunslinger-girl forums, also play a huge part in the final product. Thanatos, though he has joined the scene later, provided some badly needed Raws on the Volume 10 of GSG. before that there were many others, but I cant really remember them all off the bat here. As for Kodoku Ryuu, he joined the team as Translator by chance. He had contacted me once via PM. Asking me to judge his scanlating Job. My personal opinion was “Don’t give up your day job.” And offered him the position of a badly needed Translator if he wanted it. He expected just to get his scanlation job judged, not to land a place as fan Translator.
GsG Wiki: Do you regret anything that you have done during the course of your scanlations?
Tommy: Actually, I do regret some things. Namely, Volume 8.
GsG Wiki: The Petra invasion volume one would say. what is your regret in that one?
Tommy: Though everyone hates Petra, and doesn’t really bother with Volume 8 much. I regret having made that Volume as a rush job. No attempt to actually clean up the scans, just placing the English next to the Japanese. Then again, my cleaning skills were still pretty low. So I’ll be sure to go back there one day and do it right. for those Petra fans who do give a damn about her.
GsG Wiki: Are you a Petra Fan?
Tommy: well yes, Mostly because she achieves something that all the other cyborg haven’t or cant really do.
GsG Wiki: the Love relationship thing?
Tommy: Certainly. I can’t see Jose to start seeing Henrietta as a lover without yelling Pedophile out loud at him. So it’s a welcome change in my opinion. Call me a hopeless romantic or something.
GsG Wiki: about your scanlations: Why don’t you place your tags on your scanlations?
Tommy: Because I am not worthy of placing my name over any page that I already, in a way, Butcher up.
GsG Wiki: Butcher?
Tommy: Certainly, to any Japanese able person, I am literally Butchering Yu Aida’s work. Changing the book around to English without his consent on the matter or anything.
GsG Wiki: I see, but how to you protect your work from being stolen?
Tommy: I don’t really care who reads them, or where they do so. To my opinion, I don’t own a license to scanlate GSG at all. So I can’t really make demands on that note. However, I did mark the Files in my own special way. It isn’t visible when you open the file in your favorite photo previewing applications, It is only viewable in a Text editor. A small hidden marking that doesn’t affect the viewing, but does make then recognizable to me.
GsG Wiki: And have you ever encounter someone passing your work off their own?
Tommy: I haven’t, but still, I wouldn’t care about it much. I use the marking more like a way to see if they really are my scans that have ended up all over the place. Therefore, it is not for copyrights sake, but more like a thing for my own enjoyment.
GsG Wiki: How do you look at the future in your career as a scanlator?
Tommy: That’s a hard one… Well I am itching to get into the subbing business as well, not making much progress at this point, but I’ll get to that Someday.
GsG Wiki: Are you planning to start scanlating other series?
Tommy: I don’t really know at this point. GsG will always have special place in my heart, but seriously, I would take on more series to scanlate, but I’d really have to be as much of a big fan of that as I am of GsG before I’d consider it.
GsG Wiki: If you were to name a person’s name for whom you are grateful for, who would that be?
Tommy: without a second of thought: Sintendo.
GsG Wiki: why is that?
Tommy: Sintendo was Pretty much my teacher that guided me into the craft of scanlations. If it wasn’t for him… I’d be trying to do it with no clue on what I was supposed to be doing.
GsG Wiki: The translations you receive from Kodoku Ryuu, do you make any demands towards him on his translations?
Tommy: I have yes. One of foremost thing I can think of, is to drop the Japanese Honorifics.
GsG Wiki: Why is that?
Tommy: Well, seeing, as Yu Aida is keen in details and making it right. an Italian girl wouldn’t use –San, to address anyone. Hence, we don’t leave that in. I am firmly of the opinion that an Italian would never use Japanese Honorifics to address anyone; neither would an English-speaking person, so why even leave the Japanese version in? When you translate Japanese to English, translate it all, even the honorifics.
GsG Wiki: it sounds like you really have a problem with this.
Tommy: I sure do, I really hate it, especially when reading subs. I mean, they do not bother to translate the honorifics, but they do translate the rest. Also the info pup ups are so annoying, especially when it’s a not so grade sub, because the info pop ups and the actual Dialog subtitles would be shown at the same time at the bottom, that you miss both of them. Even the damn information Popup are highly annoying…
